A surface low pressure area over the Great Lakes and its associated cold front extending southward will track eastward today. Periods of showers and thunderstorms will be possible, many along and just behind the front across portions of the Gulf Coast and Southeast. Meanwhile, some areas of light snow will be possible across the Great Lakes. Snowfall amounts should generally remain less than 4 inches, except for slightly higher totals possible along the eastern shore of Lake Ontario. An upper level disturbance will also bring periods of light snow to the High Plains of eastern New Mexico into Southwest Texas.
