NII Holdings Selects iMap for Android Weather Widget and Mobile Web Services in Latin America

Weather Decision Technologies, Inc. (WDT), a global leader in state-of-the-science iMap weather applications has been selected by NII Holdings, Inc. [NASDAQ] a leading provider of mobile communication services operating under the Nextel brand in Latin America, to supply its dual-language Spanish and Portuguese iMapMobile weather widget and mobile web application for the recently released Motorola i1 device, the first push-to-talk Android™ powered smartphone in Latin America. Nextel mobile customers on the iDEN network in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico have access to local weather conditions directly from their i1 widget.

"We were impressed with the iMap widget, and decided to launch the iMapMobile application as a pre-loaded feature of our first generation Android device, the Motorola i1," said Bob Ewald, Vice President of Product Management, NII Holdings, Inc.

"The iMapMobile application brings mobile users throughout Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico high quality weather information wherever they are," said Mike Eilts, President of WDT, Inc. "The weather data is location-specific, meaning it follows you as you move around the country or to other countries, serving up precise, accurate weather conditions in an easy-to-use package that beats conventional mobile weather applications, hands down."

iMapMobile offers current conditions and pinpoint forecasts for a user’s current or desired locations. When a user is in "follow-me" mode, current condition data is automatically provided for the user’s location. Users can alternatively get a forecast for any location in the world by typing in a city and country. The WDT geo-coding automatically locates the latitude and longitude for the location entered, allowing iMapMobile to deliver the latest forecast for that location.

For the rest of the NII’s portfolio, WDT's mobile web solution relies on the award-winning AskMoby WAP solution, from Nowcasting International, which combines current conditions, hourly forecasts, satellite imagery and activity-based preferences such as soccer, sailing, and hiking. AskMoby was recently the recipient of the Silver Award at the Mobile Search Awards in London, for the most innovative mobile web business model.
