An upper level trough will move into the Atlantic Coast today with the associated cold front extending from the northeast coast into the Gulf States. Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected along the front during the afternoon hours. The greatest chance for severe thunderstorms is across the Northeast and the Gulf States. Severe chances are low, however, any storms that form will have the potential for hail and damaging winds. Storms will congeal into line segments and push off the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts.

Excessive rainfall is expected in the Southwest due to ample monsoonal moisture being present. The moisture combined with moderate instability and diurnal heating is expected to initiate widespread thunderstorm activity with some areas receiving in excess of two inches of rain.
