by WeatherOps, on Feb 3, 2015 3:54:29 PM

Light to moderate snow will be possible Wednesday from the Central Plains to the Missouri Valley, as well as portions of the Midwest and Northeast. Showers and isolated strong thunderstorms are possible along the Southeast coast and Gulf of Mexico.

Central Plains to Missouri Valley: Strong high pressure will build into the Northern and Central Plains by Wednesday with a cold front advancing into Texas and the Ohio Valley by Wednesday night. A region of light to moderate snow should be ongoing during the morning hours across Southeast Wyoming and Central Nebraska. This activity will quickly follow the cold front’s progress into Northern Missouri and Central Illinois later in the afternoon with light accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible with potential for heavier amounts with the stronger bands of snow.

Midwest/Northeast: Further east, a developing trough over the Eastern CONUS will bring light to occasionally moderate snow from Indiana into New York during the day. While major accumulations appear unlikely, 1 to 3 inches will be possible along with heavier amounts resulting from additional lake effect snow.

Gulf of Mexico and Coastal Areas: Further south, a developing surface low over the western Gulf of Mexico is forecast to intensify as it tracks to the east-northeast with a cold front tracking southward behind the low. Showers and thunderstorms are expected for much of the Northern Gulf and Gulf Coastal areas through Wednesday afternoon and evening. Isolated strong thunderstorms will also be possible with gusts in excess of 40 mph along the north and east side of the low’s track.
