Helping Business Weather the Storm

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Saturday, August 9, 2014

by WeatherOps, on Aug 8, 2014 4:28:03 PM

There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms on Saturday for portions of the High Plains. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible for portions of the Tennessee Valley and Mid Atlantic; heavy rain will also be a concern.

There will be a slight threat of severe thunderstorms for portions of the Central Plains on Saturday as a stationary frontal boundary interacts with an upper level disturbance moving eastward out of the Rocky Mountains. Damaging winds and large hail would be the main threats with the strongest storms. Further east along the stationary boundary, thunderstorms will remain possible but the severe threat will be more isolated in nature.

The heavy rain threat will also shift slightly eastward on Saturday, covering much of the Carolinas and southern half of Virginia. General amounts of 1-3 inches can be expected, though isolated amounts of 4-5 inches will be possible where heavier showers set up. Rainfall of this intensity could lead to areas of flooding.
