San Francisco and Norman, OK - March 21, 2012 – Weather Decision Technologies®, Inc., a global leader in providing state-of-the-science weather detection, alerting, and forecasting services, announced today that its iMap®, Weather Radio app for iOS won the 2012 Appy Award for Best Mobile Application in the Weather Category. Winners were announced at the Appy Awards gala event in San Francisco on March 19, 2012 at the MediaPost Annual Global Conference and Expo.appy award logo

Upon selection of iMap Weather Radio as the winner, MediaPost wrote the following about the app: "One could make the argument that iMapWeather Radio is as much a safety-and-security app as it is a forecasts-and-charts weather tool. Alone among weather apps, iMapWeather Radio pushes out alerts for specific weather events (tornados, etc.), drilling down on a county-by-county basis. Additionally, via its "Follow Me" feature, it warns users when they enter an area [that subsequently falls] under a specific type of weather threat. Throw in a host of interactive maps and streaming video culled from local TV stations, and iMapWeather Radio is a singular offering—an information hub for anyone who wants the most up-to-date data."

Judged by a panel of mobile industry leaders, the Appy Awards acknowledge extraordinary applications across devices, platforms and carriers. The awards focus on honoring the best apps in a diverse range of categories, from games and news, to health and fitness, social networking, photography and many others.

In accepting the Appy during the awards ceremony, Ian Stinson, Senior Vice President of Mobile Strategy, WDT, said, “On behalf of everyone at WDT who put so much hard work into this app I am honored to accept this award. It is extremely gratifying to know we saved lives as well as received recognition from our peers for our efforts and hard work.”
