An area of low pressure that has moved into the Plains will bring heavy snow, gusty winds, and reduced visibilities for Wednesday and Thursday. A cold front moving into the northern Gulf of Mexico will allow for elevated conditions and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon through early Friday Morning.
US Hazards
Heavy snow, gusty winds, and low visibilites will continue through Wednesday across western portions of Region 1. Total snowfall accumulations of 3-6 inches with locally higher amounts in excess of 8 inches will be possible. Along with the snow, northerly winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph with gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour and low visibilities will be possible. Further to the northeast across portions of the Great Lakes, snow accumulations of 7-10 inches will be possible.
Region 1
A cold front is expected to move into the north-central Gulf of Mexico by early Thursday afternoon. As the front passes across this region, winds will veer from south to southwest to northwest and finally to north Thursday night. Ahead of the front, winds will be moderate to fresh and will increase to fresh to strong, with gale force gusts possible behind the front. Seas of 5-7 feet will be possible ahead of and behind the front. In addition to the enhanced conditions, thunderstorms will be possible along the front. The stronger thunderstorms could produce wind gusts in excess of 45 knots, frequent lightning, and locally enhanced conditions.
