Isolated thunderstorms are possible across the Northern and Central Plains on Wednesday, as instability builds during the day. Across the Mid Atlantic, thunderstorms are possible along a stationary front. A cold front pushing into Maine will allow for the development of thunderstorms. There will be the potential for thunderstorms across portions of Arizona this afternoon. Thunderstorms will bring the potential for heavy to excessive rainfall to portions of the Southeast. Into Thursday, thunderstorms will once again be possible for portions of the Plains and Mid Atlantic. Activity in portions of these regions will continue into Friday.
A large cluster of intense thunderstorms is expected to slowly move across Region 1 through the morning hours. The storms may begin to move more quickly to the south and east later this morning. Wind gusts in excess of 50 mph, waterspouts, frequent lightning, and heavy rain will be possible.

Widespread convection with embedded thunderstorms is forecast to occur; widespread rainfall accumulations of 3-5 inches with locally higher amounts in excess of 6 inches will be possible. Flash flooding will also be a concern, especially where the ground is already saturated.

However, thunderstorms are expected to be a little more widespread than the isolated storms forecast for Wednesday. An upper level system is forecast to move out of the Rockies and provide upper level support for thunderstorms, while the front over the region will slowly advance. Ahead of the front, as instability builds into the afternoon, thunderstorms are forecast to develop with large hail and damaging winds the primary impacts.
