National Weather Summary for Tuesday, January 31, 2017

Snow will continue across portions of the Northern Rockies through Wednesday as an upper level low remains stationary over the region. Light snow will continue across portions of the Great Lakes and the Northeast through Wednesday as a system continues to move across the region.

US Hazards

Region 1
An upper level low will meander around the Northern Rockies through Wednesday, promoting areas of moderate to heavy snow. Widespread accumulations of 4-8 inches are expected in the lower terrain with 10-16 inches in the terrain. Accumulations in excess of 20 inches are possible across far eastern portions of Region 1.

Region 2
Snow will continue across Region 2 through tomorrow as an upper level system continues to move across the Great Lakes and Northeast. Snow accumulations of 3-5 inches with locally higher amounts in excess  of 6 inches are expected through Wednesday morning.

Region 2

A Look Ahead
A cold front approaching Northern California and increasing moisture will allow for the development of widespread showers on Friday. These showers will allow for a risk of excessive rainfall leading to the potential for flooding and runoff. An upper level low will move across the Intermountain West on Saturday, allowing for snowfall across the region. Snowfall accumulations of 4-6 inches with locally higher amounts are currently expected.
