Helping Business Weather the Storm

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Friday, January 2, 2015

by WeatherOps, on Jan 1, 2015 3:55:30 PM

Freezing rain and sleet, with significant icing, is possible Friday across the Southern Plains. Across the Lower Mississippi Valley, isolated strong thunderstorms will be possible.

Southern Plains: Just as winter weather begins to taper off across the Southern Plains on Thursday night, low pressure over the Four Corners is forecast to strengthen and move east. This should be accompanied by strong warm air advection aloft across Texas and Oklahoma as early as Friday morning along with a wintry mix of rain, sleet, and freezing rain.

Gulf Coast States: A cutoff low pressure system over the Four Corners region will support elevated showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf Coast on Friday with a developing low level jet allowing for gulf moisture to surge across much of Louisiana and bordering states to the east and west. Weak instability and forcing from an subtle impulse of energy moving across the Lower Mississippi Valley could allow for a few marginally severe thunderstorms during the day with a small risk for winds gusting in excess of 45 mph.
