Light to moderate snowfall will be possible Tuesday for the High, Central, and Southern Plains. Across the Great Lakes, lake effect snow is expected.

A strong area of high pressure across the Central Plains will drive a cold front and sub freezing air mass across much of the country. Further to the west, a deepening area of low pressure will be tracking along the California coast. This will allow winter weather to develop or continue for much of the High Plains and into the Central and Southern Plains. Winter weather currently active in the Central Plains will be ending this morning while winter weather will begin today across the Southern Plains and Southern High Plains. Higher elevations will see up to 3 inches of snow, while Texas will see up to a tenth of an inch of ice.

Lake effect snow will develop today across the Great Lakes. The heaviest snowfall will be from Fulton to Watertown, New York where snowfall totals will be 1-2 feet.
