Hazardous Weather Outlook for Friday, December 19, 2014

Showers and thunderstorms, with some severe thunderstorms, will be possible Friday for the Gulf Coast. Heavy rain is possible for portions of Texas and the Southeast. Moderate to heavy snow, heavy rain, flooding, and mudslides will be possible for the Pacific Northwest.

An upper level disturbance will move across Texas and the Lower Mississippi Valley with thunderstorms spreading eastward through the day. Some thunderstorms will have the potential to become strong to severe with gusty winds and hail possible. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Heavy rain will be possible from central to eastern Texas into the Southeast with 1-3 inches and isolated higher amounts possible.

Across the Pacific Northwest, a cold front will move inland over the Pacific Northwest with snowfall continuing across the Cascades, into the Northern Rockies, and southward into the Sierra Nevada. 3-6 inches of snow are anticipated for the higher elevations and 6-12 for the Cascades. Rain and showers will also continue for the low lying coastal areas of the Pacific Northwest. .25-1.75 inches of rain will be possible, in addition to flooding and mudslides.
